Polar Bears have been central to Barbara Stone’s life since 1980. As the primary character of her artwork, the subject through which she understands Nature and the archetypal context for her contemplative life, bears provide endless possibilities.

Barbara Stone has used Polar Bear images in her artwork since 1982. Her studies have lead her to the Canadian Arctic, Scandinavia, and Alaska. She enjoys bear mythologies of Japan, Samiland, Nunavut, and the indigenous groups of North America. Barbara’s narratives celebrate her own experiences with Polar Bears as well as those of people she has met through her life.
When you listen to these stories you will discover how the purpose of her life and work is to honor Polar Bears. In their image Barbara finds meaning and clarity about her human world.
